FAQ (Frequently asked questions about laser treatment)
We know you'll probably have a few questions about our laser treatment, so we’ve set out to answer some of the most frequent ones for you.
If you don't find the answer you're looking for here, feel free to call our clinic, and we’ll be more than happy to help you.
Is the treatment right for me?
Laser hair surgery is suitable for most people and skin types, but works best with dark hair with medium or thick density.
There are some other points that determine your suitability for the procedure, such as the whether you are using certain medications and also your skin type. Because of the way the laser uses pigment for travelling to the follicle, it may not be suitable if you have very dark skin.
That being said, it doesn't rule it out for you if you do. Before we book you in for laser hair removal, we conduct a thorough consultation over the phone followed by a patch test at our clinic. That way, we can learn more about you and advise on your suitability for the treatment.
Do I need to prepare for the treatment?
Before we get rid of those annoying hairs from your life, we kindly ask that you follow a few steps.
You'll have to cleanly shave the area 24hours before the laser treatment. Manual razors are better than electric for this as they cut hairs shorter. Please refrain from using wax, plucking or tweezing the area beforehand - the laser can remove the hair follicle much better, so please, shave only.
Your skin surface needs to also be makeup free, devoid of fake tanning products, lotion, suncream and deodorant. The laser we use produces heat and uses pigment; and we don’t want you getting burnt during our treatments.
Please also keep the area that is going to be treated out of heavy sun four weeks before the treatment.
How does the procedure work?
The laser attacks hair at a certain stage in the cycle of growth and sends light (heat) via the pigment to destroy the follicle and root of the hair. This cutting edge technology gives you truly amazing results!
In our pre-treatment consultation we would have found out all we need to know to adjust the laser strength to match your skin type for the treated area and monitor your skin's reaction throughout the course of the treatment.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
In short, no it doesn't! Our smart diode machine is state of the art and gives our clients a totally painless experience. You'll feel only warmth on the skin when the procedure is taking place.
How will my skin feel after the treatment?
Once the treatment is finishes, it's unlikely you will have any pain or discomfort. To give you the best results, we'd strongly suggest staying away from gyms, saunas and taking very hot showers. The reason for this is because heat stays on your skin for 24 hours, and anything that raises your temperature higher can make you prone to spots and for bacteria to build up on the body.
Does hair need to be grown out before I can have laser hair removal?
You'll need to shave the hairs on the parts of the body that are being treated, but the follicle need to stay so the laser can do its thing.
Can laser hair removal be done anywhere on the body?
Yes! Anywhere on the body can be treated with laser hair removal, even the sensitive parts!
That includes:
- Arms
- Arm pits
- Legs
- Underarms
- Bikini line
- Chin & jawline
- Sideburns
What sort of results do I get from laser hair removal?
Amazing ones! After just one session you can expect hair reduction of up to 20%. However, being that your hairs will be in various different stages in the hair growth cycle, we suggest between 6-8 sessions to ensure we treat every hair and get you up to a 90% hair reduction rate.
Can men get laser hair removal?
Of course! wherever hair grows, we can remove it.
