What are dermal fillers and lip fillers?

Lip fillers are a non surgical cosmetic lip enhancement that offer amazing results and do not burn a hole in your pocket with the price!

The main aesthetic medicine we use is collagen. Collagen increases the size of your lips and can change their shape. The top lip can be enhanced to give you the highly desirable Cupid's bow.

At Moon Aesthetics, we have trained therapists who are fully qualified to perform a range of lip treatment techniques that can reconstruct your lips' size, shape, volume and give your face a more youthful appearance.

Facial aesthetics like these define your lips whilst also benefiting the rest of your face. For example, they are able to smooth out the wrinkles around the mouth, especially the top lip.

Dermal fillers are non-permanent treatments, meaning you can switch up techniques so that you are completely satisfied with your new look. Our therapists are here to provide you with expert advice to prevent this.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Lip fillers are non-permanent lip enhancement. Their effects will wear off eventually if they are not repeated. Lip fillers normally last from 3 to 18 months. This enables you to change your mind about the treatment. Once you require repeat treatments, our professionals are here to provide them for you.

Is the process painful?

Lip injection treatment uses injections and involves piercing the skin with needles, so you should expect some pain. The treated area will feel slightly uncomfortable but should not feel too painful.

However, obviously everyone's body is different and so this will differ somewhat depending on the individual.

In short, it is very manageable and all of our team are trained with a focus on ensuring our patients are comfortable, so you know you're in safe hands when you book an appointment at our Essex clinic.

Our team will conduct a thorough consultation with you before we begin any treatment to make sure we're fully aware of any allergies and adverse reactions you may have had in the past.

What should I do for aftercare?

A small amount of aftercare will be required after your lips have been injected. This is the case with any dermal filler treatment.

Practical aftercare is important to stop infections or complications from developing on the skin and treated area. Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising to the lips is to be expected after and during the procedure. Although, these are only temporary side effects and should wear off within a few hours or the next day.

Once the treatment is over, you should avoid touching the area as it can be incredibly sensitive and could cause infections. If you are still experiencing pain after the procedure, simply apply a cold compress to relieve this and reduce swelling.

After the having dermal fillers, it is important to keep away from any sources of heat as they can cause additional and unnecessary swelling, which can be painful. Try not to exert yourself in any high-intensity exercise as this also impacts swelling. It's a good idea to avoid exercise and activities that involve being in or near heat sources, such as saunas.

Lip filler - FAQs

How long does the process take?

The time it takes to complete lip treatments can depend on many factors, mainly the amount of filler being inserted. - the more that is used, the longer the procedure can take. Generally, the treatment takes around 5-30 minutes.

Can I get my lips done if I'm pregnant?

Choosing to have lip injections during pregnancy is not advised because dermal fillers have not been tested on pregnant women, meaning the safety of this is unknown. The NHS recommends against having any muscle-relaxing procedures such as botox during pregnancy, which is why we do not carry out similar procedures on pregnant women.

How do I massage out lip filler lumps?

Soft lumps may occur after having lip treatments. It is entirely safe to massage them to decrease swelling as long as they do not feel hard or rubbery. These lumps are just undissolved collagen, meaning they are safe to be dispersed. Massage them firmly to flatten them.

Can I smoke after?

You should not touch your lips directly after injections, so it is best to avoid smoking for 24 hours after the treatment. After this, it is okay to smoke. Smoking 24 hours after lip fillers should not cause any damage or infections.

How long will the lip filler swelling last?

Swelling and redness of the area are expected side effects of lip filler. They are temporary, so they should wear off in a few hours or the next day after your treatment. The amount of lip filler that you have may impact swelling. All side effects should completely wear off within two weeks.

How to reduce swelling afterwards?

Swelling can be reduced by using a cold compress on the area. Any pain that you are still experiencing can also be soothed using this method. Being in and around heat can increase swelling and high-intensity exercise, which is why these activities should be avoided after dermal fillers.

Can you drink alcohol after?

Consuming alcohol should be avoided 24 hours after having lip fillers, as we recommend with smoking because the mouth will be sensitive. Once this time is up, drinking alcohol is safe. Be aware that alcohol can thin the blood and therefore can increase swelling and bruising of the lips. If you feel this is bearable, feel free to have a drink!

Is it ok to eat after the procedure?

It is completely safe to have a bite after lip filler treatments if numbing cream has not been used. If numbing cream has been applied, you should wait until the cream has worn off. It may not be safe to eat with numb lips as it may cause you to choke. Easy foods are recommended, such as ice cream, which can help soothe the lips.

Do you also reduce facial lines?

Absolutely! Alongside lip enhancement, we also offer a huge range of anti wrinkle injections that achieve amazing results. The professional team at our clinic can vastly reduce the appearance of wrinkles, crow's feet, frown lines, forehead lines and other wrinkle or skin lines. Your skin will look smoother and we can restore a natural, youthful appearance to your face and body.
