Lip filler - FAQs
How long do lip fillers take?
The length of time it can take to complete lip injections can depend on many things, mainly the amount of filler being inserted. The more filler that is used, the longer the process can take. Generally, the treatment takes around 5-30 minutes. The process should not be lengthy.
Can you get lip fillers while pregnant?
Choosing to have lip filler when pregnant is not advised as dermal fillers have not been tested on pregnant women, meaning the safety of this is unknown. The NHS recommends not to have any muscle-relaxing procedures such as botox during pregnancy, which is why we do not carry out similar procedures on pregnant women.
How to massage lip filler lumps?
Soft lumps may develop after having lip filler. It is entirely safe to massage them to reduce the swelling as long as they do not feel hard or rubbery. These lumps should only be undissolved filler, meaning they are safe to be dispersed. Massage them firmly to enable them to flatten.
Can you smoke after lip fillers?
You should not touch your lips after having filler, so it is best to avoid smoking for 24 hours after the procedure. After this, it is okay to smoke. Smoking 24 hours after lip fillers should not cause any damage or infections.
How long does lip filler swelling last?
Swelling and redness of the area are expected side effects of lip filler. They are temporary, so they should wear off in a few hours or the next day after your treatment. The amount of lip filler that you have may impact the amount of swelling. All side effects should completely wear off within two weeks.
How to reduce swelling after lip filler?:
Swelling can be brought down using a cold compress on the area. Any pain that you are still experiencing can also be alleviated using this method. Being in and around heat can increase swelling and high-intensity exercise, which is why these activities should be avoided after treatments.
Can you drink alcohol after lip fillers?
Alcohol consumption should be avoided for 24 hours after having lip fillers, as we recommend with smoking because the area will be sensitive. Once this time is up, drinking alcohol is safe. Be aware that alcohol can thin the blood and therefore can increase swelling and bruising of the lips. If you feel this is bearable, feel free to have a drink!
Can you eat after lip fillers?
It is completely safe to have a bite after lip filler treatments if numbing cream has not been used. If numbing cream has been applied, you should wait until the cream has worn off. It may not be safe to eat with numb lips as it may cause you to choke. Easy foods are recommended, such as ice cream, which can help soothe the lips.
