Microneedling aftercare
It would be best if you avoided using exfoliating products like scrubs when you're healing, as these could cause damage to any new collagen that has been created during treatment. After a microneedling session, make sure to follow all instructions given by your doctor regarding ice packs, medications/painkillers and taking care of the area if there is any bleeding. If necessary, check back with your doctor before using any products containing alcohol, such as perfumes or aftershaves. Also, avoid direct sunlight for 12 hours after treatment, seeing as the skin will be at its most vulnerable and may become more red if exposed to the sun’s UV-rays.
Apply sunscreen every day (even though this may feel counterproductive since the needles will leave small puncture wounds on the surface of your skin). This is important as UV-rays could lead to infection. Also, try applying a topical antibiotic and anti-inflammatory cream for the next few days to reduce any redness or swelling on your skin surface.
Lastly, avoid using acids, retinoids, exfoliants, and anything with benzoyl peroxide as these can often irritate the wounds left by microneedling! The risks of side effects are minimal, but there is potential for bruising or bleeding, which will typically heal within a week without leaving any scars on your skin!
